Sundays at Mindset Martial Arts: Self-Defense in Action
Every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., Mindset Martial Arts comes alive with energy and learning as we focus on self-defense techniques that empower students of all levels. These classes are about more than just fighting; they build confidence, awareness, and the ability to protect oneself in real-world situations.
A Lesson in Adaptability: The Triangle Choke Finish
In one of our recent sessions, we witnessed a great example of perseverance and adaptation on the mats. A student attempted to take his opponent down but got countered in the scramble. Refusing to give up, he quickly transitioned into a submission attempt. His opponent reversed the position, landing on top—seemingly in control—but this is where technique shined. From his back, the student secured a triangle choke, using his legs to trap and cut off his opponent’s air supply, forcing a tap.
This moment was a perfect reminder: in self-defense, being on your back doesn’t mean you’ve lost. With the right skills, you can still finish the fight.
Striking and Takedowns: A Powerful Combination
In another highlight from our training, a young woman drilled a punch to the face, followed by a well-executed double-leg takedown setup. This sequence is an essential self-defense tool—stunning an opponent with a strike before closing the distance and taking control. The combination of striking and grappling is what makes self-defense training so effective.
